Io quest'anno per Natale regalerò handmade. 
This year for Christmas I'll give handmade gifts.

Non solo oggetti realizzati da me (purtroppo il tempo per realizzarli non è abbastanza) ma anche oggetti realizzati da altri creativi e creative, preferibilmente italiani: mi piace l'idea di regalare qualcosa di speciale e nello stesso tempo sostenere la nostra economia (pensateci, quando comprate qualcosa Made In ChissàDove) e dare visibilità e incoraggiamento ad un altro creativo. Come prendere tre piccioni con una fava! :-) 
Not only objects made by myself (unfortunately the time to realize them is not enough) but also objects made by other creatives, preferably italian ones: I love the idea to give something special as gift and at the same time support italian economy (mind that, when you buy something Made In WhoKnowsWhere) and give visibility and encouragement to another creative. Like killing three birds with a stone! :-)

Su internet ci sono fior fiore di articoli sul perchè regalare handmade: personalmente lo faccio perchè per me un regalo handmade è qualcosa di unico, va al di là dell'"oggetto carino" prodotto in serie, è un pensiero davvero speciale per una persona speciale, è qualcosa che privilegia l'abilità, la pazienza e la fantasia di una persona in carne e ossa rispetto alla precisione di una macchina industriale. 
In internet there are tons of articles about the reasons to buy handmade: for my part I do it because I think a handmade present is something unique, it's far more than the "nice object" that is mass-produced, it's a really special thought for a special person, it's something that privileges the skill, patience and creativity over the precision of an industrial machine.

Decorazione di Natale 2014 - Christmas ornament 2014

L'anno scorso avevo deciso di inaugurare una nuova "tradizione": realizzare ogni anno un nuovo decoro per il nostro albero di Natale con tanto di anno scritto sopra.
Last year I decided to start a new "tradition": to realize every year a new ornament for the Christmas tree with the year written on it.

Siccome però il nostro albero è già molto ben fornito (direi sovraffollato!) di decorazioni, quest'anno anzichè crearne una nuova ho deciso di decorarne una già esistente!
Since our tree is already full of ornaments (almost overcrowded!) this year I decided, instead of creating a new one, to decorate an existing one!

Ed ecco che una semplice pallina rossa si ricopre di tanti fiocchi di neve bianchi e minuscoli strass luccicanti! La realizzazione è molto semplice, devo ancora perfezionare un po' la tecnica e poi ne farò un tutorial (lo so, lo so, la lista delle creazioni per cui vorrei realizzare un tutorial si sta allungando sempre di più... ma ce la farò!!!)
And so it is that a simple red ball is now covered with many white snowflakes and sparkling tiny rhinestones! The realization is really easy, I have to improve a bit the technique and then I'll share the tutorial (I know, I know, the list of creations for which I want to make a tutorial is growing long... but I'll make it!!!)

Con un pennello sottile e un po' di pittura acrilica ho scritto l'anno su un lato della pallina, che resterà come un caro ricordo di questo 2014
With a thin brush and some acrylic paint I wrote the year on one side of the ornament, that will remain as dear memento of this 2014

Avete anche voi una "tradizione" simile? Io già immagino quando, tra tanti anni, il nostro albero di Natale sarà una collezione piena di ricordi di tutti gli anni vissuti insieme, non sarà bellissimo?!
Do you too have a similar "tradition"? I already imagine when, in many years, our tree will be a collection full of memories of all the years we lived together, won't it be wonderful?!

La sorpresa dei regali - The surprise of presents

Quando ero piccola a casa nostra era consuetudine mettere i regali di Natale sotto l'albero e aprirli tutti insieme la sera della Vigilia, dopo la Messa di mezzanotte
When I was a kid there was a tradition at our home to put the Christmas presents under the tree and open them all together on the Christmas Eve, after the midnight Holy Mass

A me piaceva tantissimo questa usanza, amavo pensare che lì, in alcuni di quei pacchetti, c'era qualcosa per me ma senza sapere di cosa si trattasse, mi piaceva l'attesa e poi la sorpresa del momento in cui finalmente potevo aprire quei pacchetti misteriosi
I enjoyed this tradition a lot, I loved thinking that, in some of those packages, there was something for me but I still didn't know what, I loved the wait and then the surprise the moment I finally opened those misterious packages

Ovviamente uno dei miei passatempi preferiti era sgattaiolare sotto l'albero a toccare, annusare e "auscultare" i pacchetti per cercare di indovinare cosa contenessero. Ma assolutamente senza aprirli! 
Obviously one of my favourite pastime was to  sneak under the tree and touch, smell and "auscultate" the boxes to try to understand what was inside. But absolutely without opening them!

Sapete una cosa? Lo faccio ancora adesso!!! 
You know what? I do it even now!!! 

Quando realizzo dei regali di Natale, per le persone che conosco ma anche su commissione, mi piace pensare che anche i destinatari proveranno qualcosa di simile
When I realize Christmas presents, for people I know but also on commission, I like to think that the recipients too will fell something similar

Chissà se ad aprire i pacchetti contenenti questi portaciuccio saranno due mamme oppure se saranno direttamente i bimbi a scartarli? In ogni caso, spero che apprezzeranno la sorpresa! 
I wonder whether the packages containing these pacifier holders will be opened by two mothers or if their children will open them. In any case I hope they will appreciate the surprise!

And if the recipients read this blog? It would be really wicked to ruin the surprise, don't you think so?! That's why I can't show you some of the presents I realized in the last days: we should wait after Christmas...

Stella di feltro imbottita - Stuffed felt star

Oggi vi presento il tutorial di una decorazione natalizia molto semplice ma anche versatile: delle piccole stelline imbottite in feltro

Today I'm sharing the tutorial of a Christmas decoration simple but versatile: stuffed stars made with felt

Pensate che bello un albero di Natale che si trasforma in un cielo stellato! Potremmo realizzare tante stelle in diverse sfumature di giallo, o perchè no anche in colori diversi, magari un bel rosso festivo o un bianco candido come neve, oppure sbizzarrirci scegliendo per il bordo fili in colori a contrasto
Imagine how beautiful a Christmas tree transformed into a starry sky! We could realize several stars in different yellow shades, or why not, even in different colours, maybe a festive red or snow white, or play with the contrasting threads for the border

Io ne ho già realizzate diverse: alcune andranno a decorare l'albero di Natale, altre impreziosiranno i pacchetti regalo, altre ancora... lo scoprirete nel prossimo post! 
I already realized many: some will go on the Christmas tree, some I will use to embellish gifts wrapping, others... you will see in the next post!

MATERIALE:
feltro sottile giallo
ago e forbici
filo (giallo oppure in colore a contrasto, anche metallizzato)
ovatta per imbottire (ma va bene anche del cotone)
cordino o filato spesso per appendere la stella
MATERIAL: 
thin yellow felt
needle and scissors
thread (yellow or in contrasting colour, even metallic)
padding (also cotton is fine)
yarn or thick thread to hang the star

Scaricate e stampate l'immagine qui sotto (click con il tasto destro > Salva immagine) e stampatela nella misura desiderata (ad esempio inserendola in un documento Word)
Download the picture below (right click > save picture) and print it in the desired size (e.g. by putting it into a Word document)

Riportate la sagoma della stella per due volte sul feltro e ritagliate

Trace the star shape twice on the felt and cut

Sovrapponete le due sagome e iniziate a cucirle insieme con punto a festone utilizzando il filo da cucire doppio, per rendere la cucitura più resistente
Overlap the two shapes and start to sew them together with blanket stitch using the thread doubled, to make the seam more resistent

Continuate a cucire fino ad aver cucito quattro delle punte della stella
Go on sewing until you complete four of the star points

Inserite l'ovatta (o cotone) attraverso la punta rimasta aperta cercando di distribuirla bene all'interno di tutte le punte (se avete difficoltà provate a spingerla con la punta di una matita) 
Insert the padding (or cotton) through the open point trying to distribute it in all the points (you can use the tip of a pencil to push it inside the points)

Cucite anche l'apertura, inserendo ancora un po' di ovatta per imbottire anche l'ultima punta
Sew the opening, including a bit more of padding to stuff also the last point

Utilizzando un ago dalla cruna larga inserite il cordino sul retro di una delle punte e legate le due estremità in modo da formare un anello per appendere la stella 
Using a needle with large eye insert the yarn on the back of one point and tie the yarn ends to form a ring to hang the star

La nostra stella è pronta!
