A new ring sling, this time realized on request of my future mother-in-law as present for the daughter of a friend of her, who just had a boy.

Here it is, ready to be packed, together with a piece of paper explaining features of the sling, details for washing and information to find useful videos to learn how to use the sling.

For this sling I used a light-blue cotton piquet with seams in contrasting colour, matching the dark-blue rings.

I must say I prefer this fabric to the one used for the first two slings: it's thinner but still resistent, it reeves more easily through the rings and the sling is more lightweight.

This time too I realized a bag in double layer of fabric with coulisse to protect the rings during the washing cycles.

Since I'm a bit fanatical about symmetrics, this time I tried to realize symmetric pleats on the rings side instead of using the same tutorial that I used for the previous slings. The technique needs to be improved, but I think I'm on the right path.

I realize also on request, for information contact me via email (click here) or leave a comment to this post.

Accessorio per la fascia - Accessory for the sling

Do you remember the ring slings I realized for my sister and for a friend?

ARGH!!!
Well, the rings can be put in the washing machine, but to protect them and the washing machine itself it's recommanded to wrap the rings in the sling fabric. When I washed the slings I secured the fabric around the rings using safety pins, but it's not so comfortable and moreover there is the risk that the pins would open and pull the threads out of some of the other clothings! ARGH!!!

So looking in internet I saw that some slings are sold together with a fabric bag to protect the rings during the washing cycles.

And since I had some fabric left from the slings... here they are!

Each bag is made with a double layer of fabric (to better protect the rings) and has a coulisse to close it so it won't take off during the washing cycle. For the ribbons I used a flower cotton bias I already had at home, folded in half lengthwise and sewn to make it thinner and more resistent.

Do you remember the ring sling requested by a friend? Well, I realized and delivered it, but without taking any picture...

A ring sling requires a long fabric stripe about 70 cm height, so if you cut in half a common fabric that is 140 or 150 cm height you have material enough for two slings. Moreover I bought several ring pairs from Rings for Baby Slings to amortize the shipping charges (that anyway are really cheap!) with the idea to realize soon or later other ring slings, so I offered my sister to realize a ring sling for her with the "leftover" material... and this time at last I took some pictures of the sling!
After several attempts I decided that the most comfortable, in my opinion, was the one with pleats sewn near the point where the rings are inserted, because leaving the fabric free a part tended to slip down the shoulder limiting the movements. Here is the link of the tutorial I used for the pleates.
I also applied my label: accidentally it's in a matching tone!
In conclusion, a test with a cushion (not having a baby close at hand...)

A pregnant friend asked me if I could sew a ring sling for her. So I had a look around on Internet to find information about the size and the kind of material and to find some tutorials.

About the rings I read some people found them in hardware's shops or haberdasheries but I didn't find anything suitable, only rings too small or in the wrong material.

They should be at least 6 or 7 cm in diameter (more for heavy fabrics or wider slings), not too thin otherwise it's difficult to make the fabric slide through, in a nonallergenic material because they are in contact with the mother's skin (and you know, babies always put everything to their mouth) and most of all resistent! I have to be certain that they hold the baby weight for a long time!

After many searches I decided to order them from Rings for Baby Slings: it's a family run business that produces aluminium rings especially designed for use in baby slings. And they are so cute, in several colours!

I already wrote them to have detailed information on the shipping charges and the person who replied to my email was very kind and helpful. In a couple of days I'll place my order, I only need to decide the colour of the rings according to the fabric I'll use!
