Prima gonnellina natalizia - First Christmas skirt

Also this year I realized some of the Christmas presents handmade (not all, for lack of time).

For some girls I realized skirts or throusers. This is the first of the skirts: a bubble skirt in dark green velvet and with tartan insert. Unfortunately the pictures are not so good due to the glares of the velvet, it's really bright.

The skirt has an invisible zipper on one side but I also inserted a piece of elastic band in the back to make it more comfortable.

The tartan inserts are realized putting a tartan bias folded in half between the velvet bands of the waist and bottom and the central part of the skirt.

This is the first time I realize a bubble skirt drawing the pattern by myself, it should have been more puffy but as first attempt I would say it's not bad!

The viscose velvet required a great struggle! It's wonderful to see and very soft to touch, but sewing it is a real nightmare!!! It moves continually, I had to unstitch and sew again the skirt at leat twice because the overlapping parts moved while sewing, although they were basted and also fixed with pins!

  2. Working with velvet can be tricky (had my share in the past) and quite an achievement if you get to capture the final result on camera! I love the combo with the tartan!
